Indoor residual spraying in action

This week we walked through a neighborhood in Boane, Maputo province, as residents had their homes sprayed with Deltamethrin. It was a good opportunity to chat with people because most had nothing to do but wait for the fumes to disperse. Since the spraying requires residents to empty the contents of their homes, we could also see their possessions on full display. Usually they didn’t own much. This cat proved a particular challenge to contain and eventually ended up in a watering can covered with a plate. I wrote about my overall observations and posted more photos from the day on The Huffington Post. (Click through to read.)

Children, pregnant women, and small animals are particularly vulnerable to side effects of spraying.
